Payment Gateway Mali

Payment Gateway Africa connects your checkout to three local wallets available for Mali: Wave, Orange Money and Moov Money. You integrate once, collect in XOF, and receive payment status on your own backend.

Wallet Collections for Malian Buyers

A payment gateway for Mali has to place the right wallets in front of the customer, in XOF, without sending them to an unfamiliar flow.

Payment Gateway Africa is an African payment gateway built around local methods. For Mali, the confirmed route covers Wave, Orange Money and Moov Money. All three can be enabled for your merchant project, and payment statuses are sent to your backend.

This page covers the Malian setup: the currency, the wallets, how a payment moves, what you can run on the route, and what onboarding involves. For a view of every wallet we support across our markets, see our overview of Wave, Orange Money and Moov Money routes.

Mali Route Essentials

Currency: West African CFA franc (XOF). Payments are collected in XOF.

Local methods available through Payment Gateway Africa: Wave, Orange Money, Moov Money. This is the full confirmed list for Mali.

Typical confirmation: the customer completes the payment using the steps of the selected wallet.

Monetary authority: Mali uses the CFA franc shared across the West African Economic and Monetary Union. That currency falls under the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO).

Senegal also uses XOF, with Wave and Orange Money available on the same platform.

Inside a Malian Wallet Checkout

  1. Order created. Your system creates the order and sends the amount in XOF, along with your project reference, to Payment Gateway Africa.
  2. Method chosen. The customer picks Wave, Orange Money or Moov Money on the hosted payment page or in your own checkout, depending on your integration.
  3. Payment completed. The customer completes the payment using the steps of the selected wallet.
  4. Result recorded. Payment Gateway Africa records the outcome from the wallet route as successful, failed or pending.
  5. Your system updated. A postback or webhook sends the status to your backend. Your platform then fulfils, retries or cancels the order.

Status messages go to you, the merchant. Payment Gateway Africa does not run a separate notification service for buyers, so any receipts or order emails come from your own system.

Collections, Payouts and Settlement in XOF

Pay-ins, payouts and settlement are three separate flows. Each one is handled and reported on its own.

Pay-ins: collect customer payments in XOF through Wave, Orange Money and Moov Money.

Payouts: send funds to customers, such as refunds, winnings or earnings on a platform, where available for the method and project. Whether payouts can run depends on the specific wallet and your project setup. Confirm this during onboarding.

Settlement: Payment Gateway Africa dispatches your settlement on the transaction day (T+0). This timing covers dispatch only. When the funds post to your account depends on your bank, and bank posting times vary.

Reporting: transaction records and statuses support reconciliation between your orders and the Malian wallet route.

If you are already an Payment Gateway Africa merchant, you can add supported payment methods at no extra connection fee. The number of methods you enable does not change the connection price. For existing merchants, activating an already supported method can usually be completed within one day. Commercial terms are set out on the pricing page.

Connecting a Checkout for Mali

There are two ways to connect. Your onboarding contact will confirm which option fits each Malian wallet on your project.

Hosted Payment Page: you redirect the customer to an Payment Gateway Africa-hosted page. The customer chooses a wallet there and completes the payment. This keeps the payment screen out of your codebase.

Host-to-host (H2H) API: your server talks directly to Payment Gateway Africa, and you control the checkout screens. This suits platforms that want full control over the experience. H2H is a connection method, not a white-label product.

With either option, your backend receives status updates through postbacks and webhooks. Request formats, status handling and test projects are covered in the integration guide.

Merchant Verification Before Going Live in Mali

Every merchant goes through a know-your-business (KYB) review before taking live payments. Expect to share company details, ownership information, a description of what you sell, and the markets you plan to serve.

Some business types may need extra checks for the Malian route or for individual wallets. Your onboarding contact will tell you what applies to your project.

You remain responsible for your own obligations in Mali, such as consumer rules and data handling, which may require local legal advice. Our approach to verification and monitoring is set out on the AML and KYC page.

Payouts are offered where available for the method and project. Availability depends on the wallet and your setup, and we confirm it during onboarding.

What does same-day settlement mean for Mali?

You will need company documents, ownership details and a description of your business model for our KYB review. Additional checks may apply depending on what you sell.
